Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 16 Feb.'12 / 20:54

Georgian Industrial Group (GIG) has signed a memorandum with Turkey’s Misman on construction of coal-fired thermal power station in Gardabani, southern Georgia.

The planned power station will have capacity of 160MW, said Natia Turnava, chairwoman of board of directors of Georgian International Energy Corporation (GIEC), which is GIG’s daughter company.

She also said that coal for the plant will be supplied from Tkibuli mine. Coal mine in Tkibuli is owned by GIG, a giant holding with business interests ranging from energy to real estate.

The memorandum was signed on a sideline of Georgia-Turkey-Azerbaijan business forum in Tbilisi on February 16, which was opened by economy ministers from the three countries.
