Outgoing Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, appointed head of the Russia’s North Ossetian Republic, Teimuraz Mamsurov, as the Russian President’s “special representative for South Ossetia,” the Kremlin said on March 21.

The appointment comes less than a week after Medvedev appointed long-time governor of Russia's Black Sea region of Krasnodar, Alexander Tkachyov, as Russia’s “special representative for Abkhazia.”

Sokhumi has welcomed appointment of governor of Krasnodar region, which borders with Sokhumi, on this newly introduced post. Abkhaz leader Alexander Ankvab said that it would give new momentum to close Abkhaz-Russian ties.

Governor of the Krasnodar region said that in his new capacity he “will spare no effort to make our people even closer” and to create “joint economic space” in the future.

Also on March 21 Medvedev appointed Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitry Rogozin, who oversees the defense industry, as the Russian President’s “special representative for Transdniestria”, Moldova's breakaway region.
