Central election commission in breakaway South Ossetia said a presidential runoff on Sunday can be considered valid as over 47% of voters cast ballot as of 2pm local time.

Turnout threshold of 30% needed for a valid second round was cleared by the noon, according to the breakaway region’s central election commission.

Ex-chief of local KGB Leonid Tibilov, who won over 42% in the first round, faces in the Sunday’s runoff South Ossetian leader’s special envoy for human rights David Sanakoev, who garnered over 24% in the first round two weeks ago.
