Bidzina Ivanishvili, leader of opposition Georgian Dream coalition, said on April 11, that a plan to amend constitution to allow him to run for parliament without becoming a Georgian citizen was “incomprehensible”.

“Amendments, which they are planning to introduce, are so incomprehensible that I think they [the authorities] themselves will eventually realize it and stop the [the process of passing amendments],” he said, adding that the authorities should restore his citizenship instead of amending the constitution.

Ivanishvili made the remarks while speaking with journalists after meeting with Frank G. Wisner, a retired U.S. career diplomat, who is a foreign affairs advisor at Patton Boggs, an influential lobbying and law firm, which has been recently hired by Ivanishvili. According to Patton Boggs, Wisner provides clients with strategic global advice concerning business, politics, and international law from the firm’s Washington and New York offices.
