First Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Georgia, Davit Sakvarelidze, announced on June 11 about filing for resignation with an intention of going into politics. The announcement about resignation comes less than a week after it was reported by the Georgian news agencies that Sakvarelidze would become ruling National Movement party’s majoritarian MP candidate in Krtsanisi – one of ten single mandate constituencies in the capital Tbilisi. Sakvarelidze stopped short of confirming this report; he, however, confirmed that he was going into politics. A ruling party official told Civil.ge on Monday that Sakvarelidze’s possible candidacy in Krtsanisi single-mandate constituency was under consideration, but no final decision was yet made. |
