Four Jailed for 10 Days over Mereti Incident

Four men have been arrested and jailed for ten days for a fistfight incident in the village of Mereti, which thwarted a campaign meeting of Georgian Dream leader Bidzina Ivanishvili with locals on June 26.

The Interior Ministry said that four men were charged with committing an administrative offense and the court in the town of Gori sentenced them to ten-day imprisonment.

Two of four jailed men are activists of the Georgian Dream, who have denied involvement in the incident.

In its statement the Interior Ministry denied allegations that its employees were involved in the incident in the village of Mereti.
