Ruling Party Postpones Planned Large Campaign Rallies

Ruling party, United National Movement (UNM), has postponed its campaign rallies in eleven towns across the country, which was planned for September 1, for one week, saying that it was paying tribute to three Georgian special forces personnel who died in clash with an armed group close to the Russian border on August 29.

Planned large-scale campaign events in Tbilisi and ten other towns will be held on September 8, UNM’s spokesperson, MP Chiora Taktakishvili, said on Thursday.

Georgian Dream opposition coalition, led by Bidzina Ivanishvili, has also postponed its campaign rally in the town of Telavi, which was scheduled for September 2. The coalition said it would announce Telavi campaign rally’s date later.
