Bidzina Ivanishvili, leader of Georgian Dream coalition, has called on activists and supporters to stop rallying outside District Election Commissions in those provinces where official results of the Monday’s poll results remain disputed.

“Today we actually already represent the authorities; but it needs time, we will assume authority at most by the end of this month; we will establish a new people’s government as I have promised the Georgian population,” he told journalists outside his headquarters in Tbilisi.

“Meanwhile I would request to ensure maximum calmness. We are no longer in the opposition, let everyone realize it well; usually it is the opposition that protests in the streets and therefore, I have a request to stop all these street rallies,” he said.

“I was reaching out [Georgian Dream activists] in every region yesterday. And today I want to carry this message via television stations that we are real authorities; it just needs some time to technically formalize it. Therefore, I ask our supporters very much not to try to restore legality through the street rallies. We should move into the buildings, we should move into the courts and the Parliament. The Parliament will be convened quite soon and we will be able to resolve misunderstandings there.

This is my huge request – like we did it in recent days, in recent year, when the Georgian people showed a huge culture and patience – I call on the people to secure a nice transition. Europeans and Americans are very much concerned and after the heroism, which we showed, there is no need now to sort out relations in the streets. So, this is my great request – return home and we will settle everything through the courts in the Parliament,” he said.

Meanwhile, the United National Movement (UNM) said on October 4, that the Georgian Dream activists continued “intimidating” members of several District Election Commissions. A spokesperson for the UNM, Chiora Taktakishvili, said “it already represents an attempt to discredit and thwart democratic elections, which have been recognized by everyone as the freest and fairest election in Georgia’s history.”

Speaking with journalists on October 4, Ivanishvili also called on public sector employees to keep on performing their duties.

“I also want to address public officials, including police employees – observe the law, perform your duties in a dignified manner as you are entitled to do under the law; the absolute majority of public officials will keep their jobs; that will be the case in respect of police, prosecutor’s office, special services – do not worry; those, who have not committed any criminal offences, will maintain their positions. Keep on exercising your duties, don’t worry, everything will ok,” he said. 

He also said that he has not yet discussed formation of cabinet with other leaders of the Georgian Dream. Ivanishvili said that he had not even shared his views about composition of the cabinet with his colleagues from the coalition. He, however, said that “many” of those Georgian Dream members who had been elected in the Parliament would move to the executive government.
