Credentials of All MPs Approved
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 21 Oct.'12 / 15:34

Newly elected Parliament confirmed credentials of all of its 150 members at an inaugural session on October 21.

There have been reports in lead up to the inaugural session that the Georgian Dream could have tried to block confirmation of credentials of at least one UNM member – Roland Akhalaia, whose victory in a majoritarian race against Georgian Dream’s Irakli Alasania in Zugdidi single-mandate constituency has been disputed by the Georgian Dream.

Cases of alleged violations in number of majoritarian, single-mandate constituencies have been referred to the chief prosecutor’s office for further investigation, said MP Irina Imerlishvili of the Georgian Dream, who is slated to become chairperson of the parliamentary committee for rules and procedural issues.

“Now it’s up to the law enforcement agencies to react on them,” she said. “It was a political decision by the parliamentary majority… to confirm credentials of all MPs.”
