Education Minister to Become Deputy PM
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 5 Feb.'13 / 13:56

PM Bidzina Ivanishvili said on February 5 that he would appoint Education Minister Giorgi Margvelashvili as first deputy prime minister.

The post is vacant after PM Ivanishvili demoted Defense Minister Irakli Alasania by stripping his duties of first deputy prime minister in January.

Ivanishvili described Margvelashvili as “an intellectual” and “my friend.”

Another Deputy PM in Ivanishvili’s government is Kakha Kaladze, who holds energy minister’s post.

Speaking at a news conference, PM Ivanishvili also said that he was not planning reshuffle of his cabinet and added that government members “are selected very correctly.”

“I think it is very efficient government,” he said.

Asked what he considered the most serious mistake of his government since taking office in late October, PM Ivanishvili responded that there probably were “minor mistakes”, but there was “no serious mistake.”
