Interior Ministry said on Saturday that the police arrested three men in connection to scuffles during a demonstration outside the National Library on February 8 when several UNM lawmakers were assaulted.

One of them was arrested for assaulting MP Chiora Taktakishvili, who suffered a bloody nose after being punched by one of the protesters; the man faces charges over hooliganism, involving violation of public order committed with use of violence and committed against an official, which carries either fine or prison term from two to five years.

Two other arrested men are Melor Vachnadze and Mikheil Meskhi, who were in the forefront of the protest outside the National Library. Vachnadze was released from jail in January after he was included in the list of inmates whom the Parliament recognized as political prisoners.

Vachnadze and Meskhi face charges related to “petty hooliganism”, which is an administrative offense carrying either GEL 100 fine or imprisonment for up to 90 days.
