Deputy Finance Minister, Davit Ebralidze, filed for resignation citing disagreement over reform of the tax arbitration council.

“I agreed to take the post of deputy finance minister first and foremost for reforming of the arbitration council based on new principles. Since the ministry yesterday ultimately rejected these principles, staying on this post would only amount to keeping personal benefit for me, so I am rejecting it. I have filed for resignation,” Ebralidze wrote on his Facebook.

In his capacity of deputy finance minister Ebralidze was in charge of tax-related issues and also served as the deputy chair of tax arbitration council and as ministry’s parliamentary secretary.

The Finance Ministry confirmed that Ebralidze filed for resignation because of disagreement over tax arbitration council reform. 

“Reforms do not depend on any single individual, even if that’s high-ranking official. Reforms represent the main course of the Georgian government and reforms, envisaging liberalization and improvement of tax legislation, as well as efficient work of the dispute arbitration council in order to foster investment climate and protection of taxpayers’ rights,” the Finance Ministry said.
