The U.S. Department of State said it shared Georgia’s concern about installation of fences by the Russian troops across the administrative boundary line.

“The European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia has verified that fences and barbed wire are being installed along the administrative boundary line for the South Ossetia region of Georgia,” Department of State’s spokesperson Jen Psaki said at a news briefing on May 30 after asked to comment on the issue.

“We share Georgia’s concern that these fences are contrary to international law and the 2008 ceasefire agreement,” she said reiterated the U.S. support to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
