Georgian Foreign Minister, Maia Panjikidze, met U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York.

The meeting came a week before the UN General Assembly discusses Georgian-sponsored resolution on internally displaced persons on June 13, which Georgia has been pushing annually at the General Assembly since 2008.

Panjikidze expressed hope that the resolution would attract more support this year.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry said that Panjikidze informed the UN Secretary General about “recent developments across the occupation line”, involving installing fences by the Russian troops across the administrative boundary line of breakaway South Ossetia during which Tbilisi says the line was shifted deeper into the Georgian-controlled areas.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry said that “humanitarian situation in the occupied territories”, as well as the Geneva international discussions, co-chaired by UN, EU and OSCE representatives, was also discussed.

“Ban Ki-moon inquired about Georgian-Russian dialogue in frames of Karasin-Abashidze format,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.
