Georgian Patriarch Visits Moscow, Kiev, Minsk

Head of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Ilia II, left for Moscow on July 23 to participate in events marking the 1,025th anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus.

Patriarch Ilia II will join heads of eight autocephalous Orthodox churches, who will be attending the celebration, which also includes trips to the capitals of Ukraine and Belarus, Kiev and Minsk, respectively.

According to the Georgian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Ilia II together with other visiting church delegations will meet Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on July 25; similar meetings are also planned with Presidents of Ukraine and Belarus in Kiev and Minsk on July 27 and July 29, respectively.
