Parliament Evacuated After Bomb Alert

Parliament had to suspend its session late on Friday afternoon after receiving a bomb threat.

Parliamentary Chairman, Davit Usupashvili, told MPs before adjourning the session that there was a high probability that the threat was fake, but the evacuation was still needed in line with security regulations and before security officers were inspecting the Parliament building in Kutaisi.

He also said that the bomb threat was received via a phone call made to law enforcement agencies, according to which an explosive was placed in the Parliament building, which would explode in couple of hours.

According to the Interior Ministry de-miners have been sent to the Parliament building after 112 emergency call center received the bomb threat from an anonymous caller.

Police sealed off the Parliament building after it was evacuated.
