President Saakashvili said on August 1 that the UNM has “a very good” presidential candidate, Davit Bakradze, who “needs a very serious support.” “We should now rally like never before around our common candidate, because this is an issue on which Georgia’s progress will largely depend. We have a very good candidate and he needs a very serious support,” Saakashvili said. He made the remarks while speaking at a meeting with senior lawmakers from his UNM party and provincial governors; Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava was also present. Davit Bakradze became UNM’s presidential candidate after internal party elections. Saakashvili said that holding of “the first-ever democratic primaries in the history of Georgia’s political parties” contributed to “increase of our political culture.” |
