Vote Results Among Georgian Troops in Afghanistan

GD presidential candidate, Giorgi Margvelashvili, won by 104 votes against UNM’s Davit Bakradze among those 1,520 Georgian troops in Afghanistan who cast ballot in presidential election.

Early voting for Georgian troops serving in ISAF was held a week before Sunday’s election, on October 20. Two polling stations were opened in the southern Afghan province of Helmand – one in the Camp Leatherneck and another one in the patrol base Eredvi.

Margvelashvili garnered 700 votes and Bakradze – 596 votes, according the Central Election Commission, whose members counted ballots from Afghanistan after the October 27 election.

Shalva Natelashvili, the Labor Party leader, received 61 votes; Christian-Democratic Movement leader Giorgi Targamadze – 31 votes and Nino Burjanadze – 20 votes.
