Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 28 Nov.'13 / 21:29

A competition has been announced to select members for a new nine-seat board of the Georgian Public Broadcaster after the parliament endorsed legislative amendments speeding up formation of the new board after the incumbent one became defunct.

Deadline for submitting applications expires on December 12. In parallel to announcing competition, the Parliament and in particular its chairman, Davit Usupashvili, has to create a nine-member commission, which will be in charge of selecting candidates for the new board of GPB, as it is envisaged by the law. The commission has to select three candidates for each vacant seat.

According to the law, GD parliamentary majority group will name three candidates from those selected by the commission; lawmakers outside parliamentary majority group will also name three candidates; two candidates will be named by the Public Defender and one candidate will be named by legislative body of the Adjara Autonomous Republic. Nominated candidates will then require approval of the parliament.
