Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 18 Dec.'13 / 12:15

Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava was summoned by prosecutors for questioning in connection to ongoing investigation into alleged misspending of public funds by former employees of two municipal funds, which were designed to finance rehabilitation of old parts of the capital city.

Ugulava, who has been summoned questioning as a “witness”, is expected to arrive in the prosecutor’s office on Wednesday afternoon.

In February, 2013 Ugulava was charged without being arrested with misspending and embezzlement of large amount of public funds and money laundering into two separate cases; trial into these charges is underway.

Ugulava said on December 18 that the government continues “revenge” started by former PM Bidzina Ivanishvili, who, Ugulava said, continues “orchestrating” processes in the country.
