A 53-year-old Georgian citizen was found dead in the center of Kiev, which saw renewed violent clashes between protesters and police on February 18, reportedly leaving at least nine people dead.

Georgian ambassador in Ukraine, Mikheil Ukleba, confirmed that one of the dead bodies found on Institutskaya street, close to Maidan, was identified as a Georgian citizen, Zurab Khurtsia, who lived in Ukraine.

The Georgian diplomat said it was not immediately clear what was the cause of the death, but said that the embassy was informed by the Ukrainian Interior Ministry that there were “no signs of violence on his body.”

“We have to wait for the results of the investigation… I cannot speculate on possible causes of the death,” Ukleba told Rustavi 2 TV via phone from Kiev.
