President Meets Georgian Troops in Afghanistan

President Giorgi Margvelashvili made an unannounced trip to Afghanistan on March 15 where he met Georgian troops serving in the ISAF mission.

He met the Georgian troops at the Camp Leatherneck, the U.S. Marine Corps base in the Helmand province, according to a brief announcement made on President’s Facebook page on Sunday.

“I am proud to be here with you and to be the commander-in-chief of people like you,” Margvelashvili told the Georgian troops at the Camp Leatherneck, according to his office.

President Margvelashvili was accompanied by chief of general staff of the Georgian armed forces, Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze; deputy defense minister Irakli Gegechkori; secretary of National Security Council Irine Imerlishvili; chairman of parliamentary committee for defense and security MP Irakli Sesiashvili and chief of president’s administration Lasha Abashidze.
