Leader of breakaway South Ossetia, Leonid Tibilov, set June 8 as the date of holding parliamentary elections, breakaway region’s official news agency, RES, reported on Friday. Seats in breakaway region’s 34-member legislative body, which is elected for a five-year term, are contested through proportional, party-list system. Parliamentary elections in breakaway region, which are not recognized by Tbilisi, will come one week before Georgia holds local elections on June 15. |
