Georgian, Spanish Defense Ministers Meet

Georgian Defense Minister, Irakli Alasania, who is paying a three-day visit to Spain, met his Spanish counterpart Pedro Morenés on March 24.

The Georgian Defense Ministry said that bilateral cooperation with the focus on training and education was discussed.

It said that the two ministers also discussed “process of Georgia’s accession into Euro-Atlantic structures and the issue of granting Membership Action Plan (MAP) to Georgia during the upcoming NATO summit” in September.

The same issue was also discussed when the Georgian Defense Minister met his Italian counterpart in Rome on March 12.

“During today’s meeting with my Spanish counterpart we touched upon our bilateral cooperation, security environment that has been established in our region after aggression against Ukraine. We discussed that Georgia’s NATO integration should be accelerated and Spain will have a very clear-cut position about our full-fledged integration into NATO,” Alasania said after the meeting.
 
Alasania also discussed with his Spanish counterpart about Georgia’s intention to contribute to EU military mission in the Central African Republic, according to the Georgian Defense Ministry.
