80 New APCs for Russian Troops in Abkhazia

Russian Defense Ministry said on May 6 it will deploy more than 80 new, upgraded armored personnel carriers (APC) on its military base in Abkhazia before the end of this summer.

New BTR-82AM armored personnel carriers will be transferred to mechanized infantry units of the Russian military base in breakaway Abkhazia, according to announcement on the Russian MoD's website.

“Compared to last year, number of weaponry and military equipment of new modifications, supplied to the Russian military base in Abkhazia, has more than doubled. About 30 BTR-82AM [APCs] have been supplied to the military unit [in Abkhazia] in June, 2013,” the Russian MoD said.
