Parliament was not able to pass number of bills on Friday evening as it lacked quorum of 76 lawmakers in the 150-seat chamber.

Among others, the Parliament was expected to pass with its first reading package of legislative amendments envisaging additional oversight mechanisms on government surveillance practices; the bill, however, delays till November 1 addressing on legislative level issue of security agencies’ ‘black box’ spy devices in telecommunications service providers’ networks.

The Parliament was also expected to confirm with its third and final reading a proposal revoking controversial clause in legislation envisaging blanket suspension of all public servants employed in the local self-governance bodies immediately after the June 15 municipal elections.

Registration of lawmakers, which precedes an electronic voting, showed 72 MPs in the chamber, four short of required 76.

The Parliament was planning to go on a one month recess because of upcoming June 15 local elections, but with failure to pass number of bill on Friday, the legislative body may convene a session next week.
