Ukrainian Ministers of Justice and Infrastructure Visit Georgia

Two members of the Ukrainian cabinet, Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko and Minister of Infrastructure Maxim Burbak, are visiting Georgia on July 3-6.

The ministers held talks with Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili on July 4 during a meeting also attended by Georgian Minister of Justice Tea Tsulukiani and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Elguja Khokrishvili.

The Georgian PM’s office said that Georgian Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani has been “tasked to visit Ukraine to share Georgia’s experience [of reforms] with the Ukrainian counterparts.”

It also said that joint Georgian-Ukrainian “inter-agency groups with the involvement of experts will be established to deepen cooperation” between the two countries.

“During today’s meeting the Georgian side expressed its full readiness for inter-governmental relations,” the Georgian PM’s office said in a statement.

Ukrainian Justice Minister, Pavlo Petrenko, said that his country needs efficient and prompt reforms and Georgia will share its experience in this regard.
 
Georgia’s ex-economy minister, Kakha Bendukidze, who was in charge of drastic reforms in Georgia under ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili’s administration, is one of the members of the Ukrainian government's international expert council tasked to advise on economic reforms.

UNM lawmaker, Giorgi Vashadze, who was deputy justice minister in ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili’s administration, has visited Ukraine for number of times recently to share expertise on cutting bureaucratic red tape in providing public services to citizens. While deputy justice minister, Vashadze was overseeing development of Public Service Halls in Georgia – one-stop shops where citizen can get multiple services from various state agencies under the single roof, which has turned into one of the staples of the reforms in Georgia.

“The Justice Ministry will undertake all the efforts in order to share experience of reforms, which our country has gone through since independence… and [reforms] which we are continuing and development for past eighteen months, in frames of inter-state relations and not otherwise,” Georgian Justice Minister Tsulukiani said after meeting Ukrainian ministers on July 4.

The Ukrainian ministers will also visit Black Sea resort and port town of Batumi during their visit to Georgia.
