Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili met on the sideline of ceremony of launch of the European Year for Development 2015 with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini in Latvian capital Riga on January 9.

“Georgia-EU relations, effective implementation of visa liberalization action plan and threats to Georgia’s territorial integrity were the main topics of discussion,” Georgian PM’s office said.

It said that the Georgian PM noted “importance” of EU leadership taking “clear position” against Russia’s planned “integration” treaty with Georgia’s breakaway region of South Ossetia, following signature of agreement on “alliance and strategic partnership” with Georgia’s another breakaway region of Abkhazia in November.

“The head of the Georgian government… also spoke about reforms, which the authorities are carrying out to strengthen economy and democratic institutions. The PM stated that Georgia will spare no effort in order for the Europe to take concrete step and to have a positive decision on visa liberalization… The PM also informed the EU high representative about Georgian government’s efforts to reform the prosecutor’s office,” the Georgian PM’s office said, adding that Garibashvili invited EU foreign policy chief to visit Georgia.
