Georgia’s Economy Minister Visits Iran

Georgian Economy Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh in Tehran on May 18.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a press release that Minister Zarif noted the “good relations” between the two countries and spoke of a need to enhance bilateral economic cooperation.

The Georgian Economy Ministry said that “there is much more potential” for expanding cooperation.

Kvirikashvili, who is also the Deputy PM, said that “a huge enthusiasm for deepening cooperation has been expressed at both meetings” and Georgia “is ready to cooperate actively with Iran in areas such as transport, energy and manufacturing.”
 
During the visit to Tehran Kvirikashvili is expected to meet Iran’s Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri as well.

He will also participate in a meeting of the Georgian-Iranian Cooperation Commission.

This will be the fifth Georgian-Iranian Cooperation Commission session, the first one in the last ten years, according to the Georgian Ministry of Economy.
