The Clarion is Born

The Clarion writes about Europe.

It is trying to bridge the views of those who were born there, who entered it later in their lives and those who want to be its part - the people, societies, countries.

We write about Europe, because the idea of harmonious and peaceful co-existence of nations, based on prosperity and protection of each citizen continues to capture imagination.

We believe that all Europeans need to be reminded, that their success was not pre-determined by some magic “Europeanness”. It came as a consequence of tragic mistakes and global catastrophes.

European identity, social responsibility, conflicts and violence, arts and culture will thus be in our focus. Europeans young and old, from states old and new, known for their ideas, their social engagement will be our authors and contributors.

The Clarion begins as a partnership between Georgian and Lithuanian news outlets: Civil Georgia and Delfi.

Our principles:

The Clarion subscribes to the Code of Ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ Code of Ethics), which is based on the following principles:

Seek truth and report it:
Ethical journalism should be accurate and fair. Journalists should be honest and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.

Minimize harm:
Ethical journalism treats sources, subjects, colleagues and members of the public as human beings deserving of respect.

Act independently:
The highest and primary obligation of ethical journalism is to serve the public.

Be accountable and transparent:
Ethical journalism means taking responsibility for one’s work and explaining one’s decisions to the public.

What do we publish?
The dominant style is news analysis: these are informative and balanced pieces of 950-1100 words, with a strong perspective of the author. The news analysis is factual and analytical.

The opinion/comment pieces, give a forum for our authors who have something important to say. These pieces must be shorter – typically 550-650 words.

Features are articles that tell stories.

We are not the news agency, the news articles you would see on our page would lead you to our partners: Civil.ge and Delfi.lt
