The Georgian Foreign Ministry said on February 20 that it does not recognize “the so called referendum,” held in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Georgia does not recognize the so-called independence of Nagorno-Karabakh and consequently, the so-called referendum held in Nagorno Karabakh and/or its results,” the MFA statement said.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry added that “it is necessary to continue a dialogue for peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, in compliance with the norms and principles of International Law.”

Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed territory between Armenia and Azerbaijan, held a referendum on February 20 to adopt the region’s new constitution, which Azerbaijan denounced as illegal.
