Breakaway Region's Leader Furious over Saakashvili’s Visit

President of breakaway South Ossetia Eduard Kokoev condemned the surprise visit of presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili to the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali on January 3.

“This move of Saakashvili was symbolic and we did not interfere. In future we will not let him arrive in South Ossetia without preliminary agreement with the [South Ossetian] authorities,” Eduard Kokoev told reporters on January 4.

During his visit to Tskhinvali Mikheil Saakashvili met with local population and vowed that during the next presidential elections polling stations would be opened in Tskhinvali as well.
