Tbilisi Appoints Envoys to Control Port and Customs in Adjara

Georgia’s central authorities appointed two representatives of the President to Adjara Autonomous Republic to jointly control the customs and the port of Batumi, in order to provide Tbilisi with information about customs operations and to ensure transparency of mobilization of taxes.

Davit Akhalaia will be the Presidents representative to monitor Sarpi checkpoint at Turkish border and Vasil Sanodze will be the President’s envoy to the port of Batumi.

The agreement over appointment of the President’s representatives to the Adjarian Autonomy was achieved as a result of the March 18 talks between President Saakashvili and Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze.
