President Saakashvili appointed Zurab Tchiaberashvili, who chaired Central Election Commission (CEC), as a Mayor of the Georgian capital Tbilisi on April 19.

“I dismiss Vano Zodelava from the Mayor’s post and appoint Zurab Tchiaberashvili. I also appoint a new Bidzina Bregadze, also a young man, as a Premier of the city. I give you six months to tackle the problems facing the city - first of all illegal constructions that are taking place in Tbilisi, improvement of roads and of course social problems,” President Saakashvili said during the meeting with the new Mayor and Premier of the capital city.

Zurab Tchiaberashvili, 32, resigned from the CEC’s Chairmanship post on April 19. Before appointment as a CEC chief last November, he led an election observer organization International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy.
