Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze criticized the Georgian Foreign Ministry for its decision to recall Georgia’s Ambassador to the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) Konstantine Zaldastanishvili, during her visit to Brussels last week.

“I think it is unprecedented and just unethical to send a letter of recall [of an Ambassador] while this Ambassador is accompanying the visiting Parliamentary Chairperson at official talks,” Nino Burjanadze told Imedi television on April 13, adding that the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs should discuss this issue and demanded an explanation from the Foreign Ministry.

President Saakashvili nominated MP Salome Samadashvili, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs, as Georgia’s new Ambassador to the Benelux countries.
