MPs, MFA at Odds over Recall of Ambassador
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 18 May.'05 / 18:43

A group of parliamentarians, including Chairman of Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs Kote Gabashvili, said that it was “unethical” to recall Georgia’s Ambassador to the Council of Europe Lana Gogoberidze, when the latter was participating in the CoE Summit in Warsaw on May 16-17.

Lana Gogoberidze’s term of office expired on May 1; however, according to a special decree of President Saakashvili, this term was prolonged until July 1, 2005.

In a similar situation that occurred in April, Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze criticized the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a recall of Georgia’s Ambassador to the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) Konstantine Zaldastanishvili, while the latter was accompanying Burjanadze at an official negotiations in Brussels.
