Foreign Minister: Georgia will Intensify Reforms to Join NATO

New Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said on October 24 after meeting with NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia countries Robert Simmons that Georgia will “further activate its work towards joining the NATO.”  
“The supreme goal of our foreign and internal policy is integration into NATO,” Gela Bezhuashvili said.
 
He stated that Georgia plans to increase its mission at NATO Headquarters. Bezhuashvili also said that a working group will be set up at the Georgian Foreign Ministry which will monitor the fulfillment of Georgia’s commitments under the Individual Partnership Action Plan with NATO.
 
Within the frames of the visit Robert Simmons, who arrived in Tbilisi on October 24, will also hold talks with President Saakashvili, Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili and other officials. On October 25 the NATO envoy will attend the opening of the NATO Information Center in Tbilisi.
