Saakashvili Thanks Russia for ‘Advertising’ Georgian Wine
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 3 May.'06 / 18:48

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said on May 3 that he is grateful to Russia “for advertising Georgian wine” by banning its import; however, the President added that Russia has done “a very foolish thing” by making such a move.

“In the long term perspective, we should be thankful to Russia, because the entire world has learned that Georgia has wine, Georgia is a country of wine and the drinking of Georgian wine is equal to supporting freedom-loving nations,” Saakashvili told reporters in Lithuania, where he is participating in a high-level summit.

President Saakashvili also spoke about the prospects of gaining access to new markets, saying that Georgian wine producers should work better and “we are ready to help them.”

“We will return to the Russian market, but heretofore, in the nearest 2-3 years we will gain access to the European and American markets. The American market is much bigger than the Russian one,” the President added.
