Opposition MPs Visit South Ossetian Conflict Zone
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 23 Apr.'07 / 13:29

The leader of the opposition New Rights party, MP Davit Gamkrelidze, and several party activists left for the South Ossetian conflict zone on April 23 to hold talks with Tbilisi-loyal, alternative leader of South Ossetia Dimitri Sanakoev and meet the local population of the Georgian villages of Kurta and Eredvi.

Gamkrelidze called for talks with South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity and alternative leader Dimitri Sanakoev on April 13 while speaking at the Parliament’s plenary session after parliamentarians had adopted a draft law on creating a provisional administrative entity in South Ossetia.

Apparently, this issue will top the agenda of talks with the Kurta-based alternative authorities.

Earlier on April 17 leaders of the opposition Industrialists party Gogi Topadze and Zurab Tkemaladze also met with Sanakoev's administration in Kurta. Following the talks, Topadze, a beer magnate who runs the Kazbegi company, said that his company would allocate GEL 500,000 for economic projects in the conflict zone.
