Opposition Plans ‘Town of Tents’ Outside Parliament
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 6 Nov.'07 / 20:15

Irakli Batiashvili’s release would be a confirmation of the authorities’ claims that they are really ready for a dialogue with the opposition, Tina Khidasheli of the opposition Republican Party told protesters outside the Parliament on November 6.

“The only thing they [the authorities] have to do in order to make us believe in their pledge for readiness in dialogue they have to do one simple thing: release Irakli Batiashvili. Batiashvili should stand right beside us now,” she said. “We will negotiate on the rest of our demands after Batiashvili is released.”

Release of Batiashvili is among those four demands outlined by the opposition on October 17.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders have announced that they were planning to set up, what they called, “a town of tents.”

“They [authorities] say protest rallies are waning. This is exactly what they want to happen, but this is far from reality… We will install tents here and we will stand here till the end,” Zviad Dzidziguri of the Conservative Party said.
