Saakashvili First with TV Ads
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 30 Nov.'07 / 22:52

“There are no abandoned towns in Georgia,” was the message of presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili’s first TV ad aired on TV on November 30.

The four minute advertisement takes a TV news report format, telling viewers about Saakashvili’s recent visit to Tkibuli, a coal mining town in the Imereti region.

The ad opens with Saakashvili speaking to miners, telling them that a new textile factory to employ 1,500 people was planned for the town. Saakashvili is then seen greeting a local retired miner and his wife, with the woman hugging Saakashvili and telling him: “I kiss you every time I see you on TV.”

The ad also shows Saakashvili inside the mine talking with workers. At the bottom of the screen viewers read that 1,000 people were employed in one of the reopened coal mines.

The TV add is the first one for any of the presidential candidates.
