Peacekeepers, Journalists Scuffle in Abkhaz Conflict Zone
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 14 Dec.'07 / 18:53

Georgia has demanded “the punishment” of Russian peacekeepers, who reportedly prevented a group of Georgian journalists from filming leaflets reading ‘We will be back’ at the Enguri bridge on the border with breakaway Abkhazia.

Video footage aired on Georgian TV showed several Georgian journalists scuffling with Russian peacekeepers, who were demanding that the journalists stop filming at their checkpoint.

“We demand the punishment of those who participated in this incident and assaulted Georgian journalists and damaged their equipment,” Davit Bakradze, the Georgian state minister for conflict resolution issues, said at a press conference on December 14. “This outrage once again confirms that the Russian troops don’t have the impartiality or neutrality to guarantee conflict resolution.”
