Badri Patarkatsishvili's body will be brought from Britain to Georgia this week and buried in Tbilisi on February 28, his family said in a written statement issued on Sunday.
“On February 22, a British coroner, Mr. Len Furlong, informed us that, despite the ongoing investigation into the cause of Badri’s death, the family can bring him home,” the statement reads.
British police said that initial inquires, including a preliminary post-mortem, suggested that Patarkatsishvili had collapsed on February 12 after complaining of chest pains in a manner consistent with the symptoms of coronary heart disease. However, the police have also carried out tests for poisoning. Results are still unavailable.
The family warned against outside interference in the funeral arrangement, saying they were the “sole responsibility of his wife.”
“The family will continue to support the charitable "Badri Patarkatsishvili Foundation" and will decide the future of TV and radio company Imedi – the two most important projects in Badri’s life,” the statement reads.
While Imedi radio station continues broadcasting, the TV station has been off the air since late December.
