Danish PM: NATO to Send ‘Strong Signal of Support’ to Georgia
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 2 Mar.'08 / 14:05

Speaking at a press-conference following his meeting with US President George W. Bush at his Texas ranch on 1 March, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said NATO would send "a strong signal of support" to Georgia and Ukraine at its summit in Bucharest in April.

"Through NATO and the European Union, we reach out to aspiring countries like Ukraine and Georgia. We support their efforts to reform and develop links with Europe and across the Atlantic. And we will send a strong signal of support from our upcoming NATO summit in Bucharest," he said.

President Saakashvili said on February 26 that Georgia had reached “a very important historic stage” in its progress towards NATO integration ahead of a NATO summit.

“What we all, and even me, believed to be utopian two or three years ago, has become real today,” he said. “A NATO summit will be held in Bucharest in April, where Membership Action Plans (MAP) for Georgia and Ukraine will be discussed along with other issues. This is a very important historical stage for our country.”
