U.S. Reiterates 'Unshakable' Support for Georgia’s Sovereignty
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 17 Apr.'08 / 11:28

The United States reiterates its unshakable support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty and will examine what Russia plans to do in respect of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Sean McCormack, the U.S. State Department spokesman, said on April 16.

“Let us take a look at exactly what has been proposed to the [Russian] Foreign Ministry that it do before I offer any more detailed reaction. But I think that the top-line point that I have made speaks to exactly the point that the Georgian Government is talking about, and that is our full, unshakable support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty,” McCormack said at a press conference in Washington.

Davit Bakradze, the Georgian foreign minister, said on April 16 that Russian moves to establish official ties with breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia are “an attempt to legalize the annexation of the two Georgian regions.”
