/ 27 May.'02 / 16:43

(Tbilisi, May 27, Civil Georgia) - Leader of the New Rights party Levan Gachechiladze declared today that he leaves the Parliament as intends to run for Tbilisi Sakrebulo [city council] membership.

At the news briefing on May 27 Gachechiladze said that many leading MPs also run for Sakrebulo membership but after the local elections they will refuse to leave the Parliament.

"To prove that my intention to be a Sakrebulo member is not a false and part of the pre-election campaign I leave the Parliament," Levan Gachechiladze stated.

Gachechiladze said that even if the New Rights party does not receive 4% of votes and cannot endorse its members into Sakrebulo he would not change decision to leave the Parliament.

Local self-governance elections are scheduled for June 2.
