Opposition Rallies outside Imedi TV
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 23 Nov.'08 / 16:27

Imedi TV senior executives told couple of hundred protesters outside the TV station’s premises in Tbilisi on November 23, that they planned to launch a biweekly political talk show starting from December 15.

A group of opposition parties and politicians held a protest rally outside the TV station demanding Imedi TV’s return to, what they call, “its legal owner.”

The rally was joined by Sozar Subari, the Georgian Public Defender.

Bidzina Baratashvili, director general of the TV station, and his deputy Alexandre Parulava met with Levan Gachechildze, a former opposition presidential candidate; Koka Guntsadze, an opposition politician, as well as with Sozar Subari and informed them about the TV stations plans in respect of political programming.

Apart from the biweekly talk show, which will be simulcast by the Imedi radio station, the TV station also plans to launch a primetime, weekly political talk show starting from January.

“We can consider this as a little success against the background of lack of such debates on the national television stations,” Levan Gachechiladze told the rally.
