Head of Public Broadcaster Resigns
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 20 Jul.'09 / 15:46

Levan Kubaneishvili has resigned from the post of Georgian public broadcaster’s general director, the broadcaster’s board of trustees confirmed on July 20.

The board of trustees on July 20 announced a competition for a vacant post; meanwhile, deputy general director, Gia Chanturia, will be an acting head of the broadcaster.

Deadline for applying for the post expires on August 3 and board of trustees will elect new general director on August 10.

First unconfirmed reports about Kubaneishvili’s intention to resign broke last week; ex-head of the public broadcaster has not yet commented on reasons behind his decision to quit, after almost sixteen months of service on the post.

This is the second major reshuffle on the Georgian national television networks happening recently. Giorgi Arveladze, President Saakashvili’s longtime ally and former government member, was appointed as general director of Georgia Media Production Group (GMPG), a holding uniting Imedi television and radio stations.
