Opposition, Ruling Party Discuss Format for Election Reform Talks
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 10 Nov.'10 / 15:49

Opposition politicians representing over dozen of parties are meeting with senior ruling party lawmakers, including Parliamentary Chairman Davit Bakradze, on November 10 to agree on a format in frame of which negotiations on election system reform should proceed.

The meeting marks the launch of a process, described by some opposition politicians as "the most important political process" which should create conditions for free and fair elections.

Davit Bakradze, the parliamentary speaker, said just before the November 10 meeting that "the process will not be just for process itself; it will be result-oriented." MP Pavle Kublashvili, chairman of the parliamentary committee on legal affairs and MP Petre Tsiskarishvili, the parliamentary majority leader, are two other ruling party lawmakers participating in the meeting.

One of the key points about format of talks is how the decisions will be taken during the negotiations - whether it will be a consensus-based or majority vote.
