Saakashvili Aims Free Trade Treaty with EU by 2015
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 11 Feb.'11 / 20:35

President Saakashvili said in his annual state of the nation address in the Parliament on February 11, that Georgia’s goal was to have free trade agreement with EU by 2015.

“Our goal is to have free trade agreement with EU by 2015 and hopefully with the United States as well,” Saakashvili said.

He said the free trade agreements with EU and the U.S. would give the Georgian products “unimaginable” access to the EU and U.S. markets.

In July, 2010 Saakashvili said that Tbilisi hoped to have deep and comprehensive free trade agreement with EU in two years.

Saakashvili also said: “By 2015 we should double our export, as well as nominal GDP.”

Georgia’s foreign trade turnover in 2010 was USD 6.67 billion, up by 21% compared to 2009 and the trade deficit was USD 3.51 billion, up by 9% over 2009.
